The MTMS Girls Basketball team welcomed the RMT Tigers to the middle school Wednesday for their third meeting this season. The team was excited to finally play their hometown rival in their own gym.
In the first half, Middle found the bottom of the net multiple times and went 4 for 7 from the foul line. They went into halftime up 12-6. From there the Panthers had a hard time against a tough Tigers team. The Panthers found themselves down for the first time in the fourth quarter. Sarah Farrow batted away a loose ball and put the rock in the basket with under one minute left in the game, getting the team within 2 points of RMT. In the end, the home team tallied their first loss in 5 games, losing 24-22 and going 2-3 against Lower this season. Leading scorers in the game for the Panthers were Sarah Farrow and Izzy Miller with 6 points each. Samantha Kretchmer entered the box score with 5 points. Leading the teams offense and dominating the floor in the tough game was Riley Odom, who finished the game with 4 points. Rounding out the score was Julia Clarke who went 1-2 at the foul line in the first quarter after a hard hit foul under the basket, with 1 point respectively. Other players who entered the game and were vital to the team's effort were Haily Estes, Alexia Davis and Valentina Rowell. The Panthers are now 6-4 on the season. Middle will travel to Dennis Township to face the Hawks in their second showing of the season. Tip off is at 4pm.
