Away at Pleasantville The MTMS Girls Basketball Team improved their record to 14-3 on the season after their final away game of the season against the Pleasantville Greyhounds. After playing the same team last week, the Panthers were eager to see this opponent again in a different arena! Coming out strong in the first half, Middle led 13-1 going into the locker room at halftime. Stretching out their bench to a few new faces in the varsity game, Middle saw 5 players in the box score and worked the offensive side well. The goal in the game was to “play good basketball” and to “see the easy play”. The Panthers did just that, winning the game 28-15. Scorers in the game included: Neileshka Hernandez with one for 2 from the foul line. K’Mouri Ruiz finished with 4 points. Both Kendall Hunter and Hannah O’Neal ended the game with 6 points. Casey day rounded out the score with 11 points, including 3 three pointers in the second half. Thank you to Chick-fil-a for accommodating the team for their final road game celebration! Chicken sandwiches and milkshakes for all! Middle will finish out their season home against the Bridgeton Bulldogs on Thursday, February 15th. Tip off is at 4pm. GO MIDDLE!

The MTMS Girls Basketball Team would like to recognize 8th grader and newcomer Naileshka Hernandez-Santiago (Nyla) as Week 8 Athlete of the Week! Nyla is brand new to our team this season and has never played basketball before. She came to us after playing on the girls soccer team for MTMS. Nyla understands the concepts of offense and defense, which has been a big help in learning the game of basketball. Nyla is one of the hardest working players on the team, in games as well as in practice. She is a very coachable athlete who takes every opportunity to learn from her teammates and coaches. Nyla saw a few starts this season and has had many minutes in each varsity game. She has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season. Not only is Nyla a great role model on the basketball team, she is also a great student in the classroom. Keep up the great work Ny! We are looking forward to seeing what you will do when you move on to high school next year!

The Panthers had not played the Greyhounds yet this season and were excited to welcome a new opponent to MTMS. The rescheduled game was from a weather struck week in January that left both teams scrambling to reschedule league games late in the season. Middle began the game strong with their press defense and working through their offensive plays in. The home team would get ahead of the Greyhounds and never look back. Finishing the first half 24-6. Zoe is an all around great role model for all players in the program, on the court and in the classroom. Not only does Zoe play basketball, she also plays soccer year round and is in advanced classes at MTMS. Being a return player, Zoe has been a big part of building the program's culture and has been a solid leader this season. Zoe works hard every rep and does all the little things needed for the team to be successful. This season Zoe had a standout performance against Lakeside (Millville), where she had a career high 6 points in the contest. We are so proud of the player & person Zoe is becoming and look forward to what comes next for her at the high school level. GO ZO!

Coming off a solid win Friday afternoon, Middle was rested from the weekend and ready to get back on the court. This puts the Panthers 9-3 on the season with more games to play! The team goal is to get better every time they walk onto the court and the coaches agree that the team got better in this game. Shout out to Zoe Super and Kendall Hunter on their outstanding game play today. On the offensive end, Zoe found her shot from the outside and was a crucial role in the press defense for the team. Kendall Hunter rose to the occasion in this game, playing a girl who was over a foot taller than her and doing a phenomenal job against her. Scorers in the game included: Casey Day with 12 points, including two 3 pointers in the third quarter. Hannah O’Neal chipped in 9 points and did a great job leading the offense in the half court. Home vs Dennis Twp The MTMS Girls Basketball Team competed in a thriller Friday evening against the Dennis Twp Hawks on Tom Ferraro Court in their second match up of the season. The Panthers would find themselves trailing from the first quarter. Going into halftime behind the Hawks 21-18. The home team would find a way to win the 3rd quarter, out scoring Dennis 10-8 with 2 clutch 3 point shots by Hannah O’Neal and Casey Day. Still down 21-18 at the start of the 4th quarter, the Panthers needed to find whatever was left in the tank to come back from being down the entire game. With 12 seconds left on the clock, down by 1 point and the ball in their possession, Midde came down the court with more energy than ever. 8th grader Zoe Super found 7th grader Casey Day in the corner in front of the home bench. At the 10 second mark, Casey put up an incredible shot from beyond the arc to bring Middle ahead for the first time in the entire game. The team would hold off the Hawks for the last 5 seconds and come away with their 8th victory of the season. The game ended in a score of 27-25 in favor of the Panthers! Middle will improve to 8-3 on the season and will face Lakeside away on Monday January 29th. GO MIDDLE!! 🐾🏀 For the 5th Athlete of the Week in the 23-24 season, the MTMS Girls Basketball team would like to recognize 7th grader Maggie Staino. Maggie is a return player from last season and has really stepped up for her team this season when they really needed her. Due to injuries and absences, Maggie stepped into a role that was crucial to the team's success so far this season. Maggie has seen many starts in recent games, when she was originally one of the first players off the bench for the Panthers. She provides the energy the team needs and is constantly moving on the court. She is an extremely coachable player and does all the little things needed throughout the game. Maggie may not see the box score in each game, but she does provide the team with the necessary defensive and offensive presence to help the team find a win. The coaches are looking forward to seeing what Maggie can accomplish moving forward throughout the remainder of the season and into future seasons. Go MAGS!
