The MTMS Lady Panthers middle school basketball team hosted the Hammonton Blue Devils on Tom Feraco Court on Thursday afternoon. This was the first contest between the two teams. Although the game stayed close in the first quarter, finishing 6-6 after 6 minutes, the Panthers found a way to open up the game in the following 3 quarters. Middle kept the Blue Devils scoreless the entire second half. The game ended in a score of 34-9 in favor of the Panthers.
Middle had 6 players score in the contest. Leading all scores was eight grader Ella Leahy with 9 points and an impressive showing under the basket. Finishing with 6 points each were Izzy Miller and Hannah O’Neal. Ainsley Frederick scored 5 points, including a shot from down town in the fourth quarter. Both Valentina Rowell and Casey Day found the rim during the game, rounding out the score with 4 points respectively. Great team effort by all players! Middle will face the Bridgeton Greyhounds on the road on Tuesday, January 24th with a 4pm top off.

The MTMS Girls Basketball Team traveled to Ocean City Intermediate School on Tuesday afternoon to meet the Red Raiders for the first time this season. The Panthers had a hard time keeping up with a quick OC team. Finishing with a tally in the losing column and a score of 38-20 to benefit the home group.
Middle never gave up and worked hard to come back from a 8-0 run from the Raiders in the first quarter. But it just wasn’t enough to get ahead. Leading all scorers for the Panthers was eighth grader Izzy Miller with 8 points. Hannah O’Neal scored 6 points all in the second quarter. Ella Leahy finished the game with 3 points, while sixth grader Kendall Hunter found the bottom of the net for 2 points. Rounding off the score for the game was Ainsley Frederick who connected on the back end of a set of foul shots for 1 point respectively. The team will meet Hammonton Middle School at home on Thursday, January 19th. Tip off is at 4pm. Go Middle! The team led from the beginning of the game and never turned back, ending with a score of 31-3

Jy’Niyah Russell completed the game with 5 points and a great showing under the boards. Middle started the game off strong by winning the first quarter 10- 2. By half time the game was still close as the Panthers entered the locker room up 16 to 10. In the end, the Lady Panthers came out victorious, winning the game 35-25 !
There were 9 scorers in the game for the home team. Leading all scores and playing a strong game offensively and defensively wasd Ella Leahy with 9 points. Valentina Rowell and Ainsley Frederick found the bottom of the rim, finishing with 6 points each. 6th grader Casey Day had an impressive showing with 4 points in her first home game ever. Rounding out the score with 2 points respectively were Izzy Miller, Hannah O’Neal, Jy’Niyah Russell, K’Mouri Ruiz, and Kendall Hunter. Great TEAM effort by all! The Panthers will meet their next opponent this Thursday, January 12th when they travel to Pleasantville to take on the Lady Greyhounds. Middle pulled RMT Lower Township for their first round game and it was a tough one against the Lower Tigers!
With less than 2 weeks of practice in, the Panthers came out rusty to start but never gave up! Keeping it a tight game throughout the 24 minutes. Middle never fell behind by more than 2 points the entire game! With 10 seconds left in the game 6th grader Casey Day found a way to the bottom of the net, moving Middle ahead of Lower by 1 point. In the end, the Tigers found a way to out score the Lady Panthers with a turnover in the last seconds of the game. Tough to lose on a buzzer beater, however, both teams played with heart and the rivalry spirit between both schools was evident. The game ended in a 20-19 loss for the Lady Panthers. Middle was led by 8th grader Ella Leahy who connected with the rim three times, including a three pointer from beyond the arch in the third quarter. Vital minutes came from two 6th graders, new to the team this year. Casey Day finished with 5 points and K’Mouri Ruiz with 4. Other Scorers in the game included Hannah O’Neal and Valentina Rowell with 2 points respectively. The team will meet their next opponent on Tuesday, December 13th in the first round consolation game of the tournament vs Galloway at 6pm. Great team effort from all! Keep up the work Middle! 🐾🧡🖤🤍🏀 |
