The MTMS girls basketball team started their season off in the Dixie Howell Tournament at Ocean City Intermediate Saturday afternoon. Middle pulled RMT Lower Township for their first round game and it was a tough one against the Lower Tigers!
With less than 2 weeks of practice in, the Panthers came out rusty to start but never gave up! Keeping it a tight game throughout the 24 minutes. Middle never fell behind by more than 2 points the entire game! With 10 seconds left in the game 6th grader Casey Day found a way to the bottom of the net, moving Middle ahead of Lower by 1 point. In the end, the Tigers found a way to out score the Lady Panthers with a turnover in the last seconds of the game. Tough to lose on a buzzer beater, however, both teams played with heart and the rivalry spirit between both schools was evident. The game ended in a 20-19 loss for the Lady Panthers. Middle was led by 8th grader Ella Leahy who connected with the rim three times, including a three pointer from beyond the arch in the third quarter. Vital minutes came from two 6th graders, new to the team this year. Casey Day finished with 5 points and K’Mouri Ruiz with 4. Other Scorers in the game included Hannah O’Neal and Valentina Rowell with 2 points respectively. The team will meet their next opponent on Tuesday, December 13th in the first round consolation game of the tournament vs Galloway at 6pm. Great team effort from all! Keep up the work Middle! 🐾🧡🖤🤍🏀
